Quarterly revenue from iPad and related products and services was $2.84 billion on sales of 4.69 million units, or nearly nine percent of the total $24.67 billion in revenues Apple reported for the entire March quarter. If sales had matched 7.33 million iPad shipped in the holiday quarter, quarterly iPad revenue could have hit $4.61 billion. Sales should grow organically in the coming weeks as manufacturing ramps up, iPad 1 channel inventory dries up and Apple expands iPad presence to new territories....

Yesterday evening, Apple launched a new repair program for a small percentage of iPhone 11 devices affected by touch screen issues. In Summary Apple’s iPhone 14 series is now official. Unlike the previous years, though, this year’s lineup doesn’t have an iPhone mini. A leaker with a decent track record has reported that the iPhone 15 design will feature a titanium casing, and may have a rounded back, rather than the squared edge of the current models. This might give next year’s iPhone lineup a similar profile to the iPhone 5C, where the front of the casing was square but the rear was rounded … ShrimpApplePro tweeted a report, which they cautioned is far from certain at this stage....

[UPDATE: Yep.] While we know we’ll see three new iPhones unveiled today, the fate of at least two of Apple’s older iPhones is uncertain. The iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus are not listed on the leaked sitemap that includes iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone Xs, iPhone Xr, and iPhone Xs Max. We already expected the iPhone X to be discontinued, but it’s possible Apple may be sunsetting the last remaining 4-inch iPhone and the last models that feature headphone jacks....

Sherman may be a small Texas town with a population of just a few tens of thousands of people, but Apple supplier Finisar has big plans for its new plant there … Finisar makes vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSEL) used in the iPhone X’s face-recognition system, along with the proximity sensors in AirPods. If you are planning on purchasing a new iPhone at Virgin Mobile this holiday shopping season, you are all but out of luck. While it somehow still sells the over three-year-old iPhone 4s, the prepaid carrier has not added the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus to its smartphone lineup and lists last year’s iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c models as out of stock. Virgin Mobile claims that both the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c are “temporarily out of stock,” although neither smartphone has been available through its website for quite some time....

Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman is now available to stream on Netflix, and with that came a lot of praise but also a lot of criticism, especially over Anna Paquin’s character, Peggy Sheeran. And not because her performance wasn’t good, but because she had little to no dialogue, and most of her acting relied on facial expressions. Many viewers have expressed their disappointment (and, in some cases, anger) over Paquin’s “underused” talent in The Irishman, while many others have praised her ability to deliver a “haunting” performance without saying much....

OK, we know we can’t get over it. Yes, the numbers from Net Applications. It is truly amazing (and hard to comprehend!) that in 5 short months, the iPhone not only matched, but opened up a huge lead on Microsoft, Symbian and Palm COMBINED. These are platforms that have been around for up to a decade…when the net was first catching on in the mobile space. It’s not the Pro, Air, or Mini, but new features like the larger 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display, an A14 Bionic chip, a 12MP main camera, 5G, and USB-C support should give the regular iPad a little more pizzazz going into holiday shopping season. The improvements come come at a cost, though. The 2022 iPad starts at $449, which is $120 more than what last year’s iPad sells for. That’s a hefty gap for a year-old upgrade, making the 2021 version just as enticing a starter iPad as the new model....

Last year I stated that the iPhone XR was the phone that most iPhone users should buy, so it should come as no surprise that the follow-up to the XR comes with a similar recommendation in our iPhone 11 review. The iPhone 11 is, for all intents and purposes, a more powerful and more feature-filled iPhone XR. Its flagship feature, a second camera with an ultra-wide focal length, is a noteworthy upgrade for camera enthusiasts, and its $699 starting price, which is $50 cheaper than its predecessor, is a refreshing change trend of more expensive tech year-over-year....

A purported image of an iPhone 5 part has appeared on a Chinese reseller of Apple parts’ website. Specifically, this part may be the digitizer panel for the fifth generation iPhone’s touch screen. The part’s design appears to be similar to that of the one found on the current iPhone 4, and past iPhone models, but the screen cutout of the panel appears to be much larger. No measurements for this cutout have been posted, but the cutout could be for a four-inch display, and this matches up with reports from Apple’s production lines in Asia....

The coronavirus crisis may have been very bad news for the economy as a whole, but Apple says that the iOS app economy has been thriving, creating 300,000 new US jobs since April 2019 – and the pandemic boosting rather than hurting that progress. The company says that iOS apps now support 2.1 million US jobs, notably on the East and West coasts, but with significant numbers in the majority of states…...
