UPDATE: Infinity Ward released a statement on Twitter after several outlets covered the speculation on a potential push towards controversy from publisher Activision. In a brief update, Infinity Ward assured fans that the studio was making the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare the studio believed in. You can read the official statement here. Former Sledgehammer Games co-studio head Micheal Condrey said rebooting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare seems like a tough challenge for developer Infinity Ward, especially if publisher Activision is pushing for the game to be “more controversial” in order to get people talking....

Apple yesterday released iOS 14.7.1, with a reference to an iOS security fix for a vulnerability that may have been actively exploited … There are two clues in there that suggest the fix was for an exploit used by NSO for a zero-click attack, which has been used against iPhones owned by dissidents, activists, human rights lawyers, and opposition politicians. Impact: An application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges....

The nation’s third-largest carrier, Sprint Nextel, yesterday reported third-quarter earnings and their CEO Dan Hesse opined “iPhone is worth every penny”. We learned they pay a 40 percent higher subsidy to Apple than the industry average, amounting to $200 more per device. In a conference call with analysts, Hesse said “iPhone users are likely to consume significantly less 3G than the typical user of a dual-mode 3G/4G device”, Barron’s reports. Was the iPhone’s 50 percent lower data consumption the reason why Sprint agreed to reportedly pay $20 billion for 30....

The new iPhone SE will appeal to many iPhone 6 owners, predict analysts – except in China, where a huge survey on the social network Weibo showed limited interest. For most iPhone 6 owners, suggested Gartner, the timing is perfect … Reuters reports. But others doubt that the new model will appeal in China, where 5G is a big selling-point and is found in some mid-range phones now. “These are people who keep their phones for four or five years, until they either break or the battery dies,” said Annette Zimmermann at consultancy Gartner....

Officially the second-generation iPhone SE (for Special Edition), the new model includes the same A13 Bionic chip found in the iPhone 11 series alongside a third‑generation Neural Engine. Apple says the A13 Bionic is the faster chip ever in a smartphone. It’s been designed to handle photography, gaming, and augmented reality experiences. The dedicated 8-core Neural Engine is capable of 5 trillion operations per second, two Machine Learning Accelerators on the CPU, and a new Machine Learning Controller to balance performance and efficiency....

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s SVP of marketing, told Wall Street Journal’s Joanna Stern “obviously we’ll have to comply” when asked about the common charger directive as approved by the EU Council earlier this week. While Apple’s MacBooks and iPads now all have USB-C connectors, the iPhone retained Apple’s Lightning connector. Indeed, it’s one of the only smartphone on the market that doesn’t already have a USB-C port. “We have no choice as we do around the world to comply to local laws but we think the approach would have been better environmentally and better for our customers to not have a government be so prescriptive,” said Joswiak....

As we suspected when Apple added a warning to a pre-release version of iOS 7 that non-certified cables may not work reliably with iPhones, the launch version is actually blocking some of them from charging the phone. Certified cables contain a chip that allows them to authenticate. We first spotted this in a Reddit post, and have since confirmed. The warning message itself is unchanged, but it’s no longer an empty threat – though as seen in comments, some non-certified cables are still working....

Elkader Cinema, a single-screen movie theater located in the town of Elkader, Iowa, will not show Star Wars: The Last Jedi this holiday season as a response to the strict terms Disney has laid out for locations interested in screening the sequel. Earlier this month, the Mouse House made waves when a list of outrageous Last Jedi guidelines for theaters was publicized in a report. Among the requirements are forking over 65 percent of the ticket sales to the studio, never pulling a showing without Disney’s permission, and keeping Episode VIII in the largest auditorium for a period of four weeks....

According to a report from Digitimes the production of Apple’s second-generation iPad will go into full-force in Q1 of 2011 for an early 2011 product launch. Apple has already secured three iPad 2 parts suppliers, Ibiden, Tripod Technology and TTM Technologies, and will be adding four more suppliers in February. The report notes that the three named suppliers have received final certification from Apple and will begin shipping limited quantities of any-layer HDI boards next month....

These new colors are “Electric Orange” and “Mallard Green.” They are available for all current iPad models. That cover isn’t available for purchase yet and likely won’t be available until Apple starts taking orders for the new iPad Pro, but the new colored Smart Folios and Smart Covers are available now and can deliver by the end of this week....

Apple made the iPhone 5, new iPods, and a slew of accessory products available on its online store last night. The excitement surrounding the occasion was certainly there. Shipping estimates for the iPhone 5 already slipped to “2-3 weeks” just an hour after sales began. Strangely, Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint are all still advertising a Sept. 21 ship date. As first reported by BGR India, the 16GB and 32GB iPhone 5S variants now have a MRP of Rs.44,500 and Rs.49,500 respectively. The 8GB iPhone 5C, on the other hand, sees its price drop to Rs.31,500.
