It might be best known for its iPhones and computers and other cool gadgets, but one of the biggest names in tech, Apple is at the forefront of digitization of education as well. And we got a glimpse of it recently at TechConX, an education technology conference by Canadian International School (CIS) in Bangalore. Today’s students are increasingly digital natives. The way they interact with technology is vastly different from the way their predecessors did....

We reported last month on an iPad keyboard with a trackpad, seen above, noting that it appeared to offer interesting-looking competition to Brydge. It now seems it may not be competing for long: Brydge has issued a lawsuit accusing the company behind the device of patent infringement. Although Brydge’s iPad keyboards don’t include a trackpad, its models for the Microsoft Surface and Google Pixel Slate do, and the company has been working for some time on an iPad model with trackpad…...

Paper, the popular sketching app for iPhone and iPad, has today been updated with optimization for the latest iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. Starting today, users of the second-generation Apple Pencil can take full advantage for the device’s new double-tap functionality. While some applications have added their own in-app settings and options for double-tap Apple Pencil controls, Paper keeps things basic by adhering to the built-in iOS options. This means that double tapping on the Apple Pencil in Paper will perform the action you’ve picked in the Settings app on your iPad:...

Apple announced iPadOS 15 earlier today at the WWDC 2021 opening keynote with multiple new features, including widgets on the home screen, enhanced multitasking, App Library, and more. However, one small but interesting detail is that iPhone apps can now run in landscape mode on the iPad with iPadOS 15. Previously on the iPad, if you had installed an iPhone app that did not fully support the tablet’s larger display, it would run in the iPhone format with black borders around it instead of full screen....

As we all know that the A9 chip in the iPhone 6s is produced by the both Samsung and TSMC, but Apple iPhone 7 would only have chosen the TSMC. This is partly due to the fuss surrounding the iPhone 6s chip, causing Samsung is slower than TSMC. The TSMC technology would also ensure that the chip can be made smaller, while performance is considerably improved. As the rumor says that Apple iPhone 7 would first make a lot thinner than the iPhone 6s, but this now will save only a fraction....

Apple’s new iPhones were the top three best-selling smartphones in the US in November, says Kantar, despite the high price of the iPhone X. In contrast, Samsung’s flagship phone, the Galaxy S8, only managed 6th position. There was more good news in other countries, says the firm … The iPhone X achieved ‘stellar’ performance in China, Japan and the UK. China was singled out as a market in which Apple achieved high switching rates from Android....

The iPhone average selling price (ASP) hit double-digit growth last year, increasing 14% year-on-year. The popularity of the iPhone 13 was the key driver, helping propel the global smartphone market as a whole to record annual revenue of $448B. Despite component shortages, the smartphone market grew 7% year-on-year, with Apple taking by far the largest slice of the pie … Market intelligence company Counterpoint published its latest estimates today. Apple took home 44% of total worldwide smartphone revenue, thanks to both high demand and an ASP that hit $825....

Sony announced a new imaging sensor today that the company says will improve smartphones cameras. The Exmor RS IMX230 is a stacked CMOS sensor that packs 21-megapixels into a small 1/2.4-inch design. One of the key talking points of Sony’s new chip is its 192 point phase detection autofocus, which makes it easier to shoot photos or video of a fast moving subject with your smartphone. Sony’s new hardware also supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging for high-resolution photos and 4K video recording....

DxOMark today revealed their official score for rating the iPhone XR’s sole rear camera, awarding the shooter a mark of 101, the highest ever for a single-lens smartphone. The score even got Apple’s Marketing chief Phil Schiller’s Tweet of approval, which is notable because previous DxOMark’s often ambiguous scores were disavowed by many in the Apple community after the company often rated relatively inexpensive Android phones consistently higher than flagship iPhones....

Apple is reportedly investigating a massive fraud by Foxconn managers who sold iPhones made from rejected parts. The scam is said to have netted an incredible NT$1.3B (US$43M) over a three-year period… Taiwan News reports. Details are sketchy, but local-language reports suggest that a management team responsible for destroying defective parts instead arranged to sell them to a crime ring that assembled them into working iPhones, subsequently sold to unsuspecting buyers....

The shop – situated at a flagship location – will cover 700 square metres. We first reported Apple’s French national treasure intention in January, and later learned the new shop will extend across two floors, replacing two previous shops, Résonnance and Lalique. The Louvre location is one of a bevy of new store openings planned as part of Apple’s international retail extension plan. Over half the new shops to open in the current financial year will open outside of the US, the company’s recent financial filing reveals....

We mentioned back in June that iOS 7 uses location data to incorporate Google Now-style info into the Notification Center. In the latest iOS 7 betas, Apple allows users to see some of their frequently visited places in Settings. This helps the system determine how much traffic will be present when you need to head to your next destination. BuzzFeed highlighted the feature, but as Rene Ritchie writes, this capability is entirely opt-in....

Within the first twenty-four hours, iOS 8 update appeared to be slower than its predecessors. A few weeks in, this continues to be the case says analytics firm Fiksu. After twelve days, both iOS 6 and iOS 7 had comfortably crossed the 50% mark for iOS usage. By contrast, iOS 8 is yet to hit the 40% mark according to Fiksu’s measurements. An independent study from Mixpanel says iOS 8 is closer to 50%, but it is still far behind iOS 7’s rate of uptake....

Last July, sales of iOS devices caught up with sales of Windows devices, making it a tight race as to who would ship the most units as 2015 wrapped up. Now, Asymco has shared a chart depicting the extraordinary growth of iPhone shipments and showing that in 2015, iPhone shipments overtook Windows shipments as a whole. As you can see in the graph above, Apple shipped just over 300 million Macs, iPhones, and iPads in 2015, continuing its consistent yearly growth....

A new iPad app for public housing tenants is expected to cut repair times, increase engagement between tenants and staff – and could potentially even prevent tragedies caused by uncorrected property defects. A repair report can now be filed by using the iPad to take a photo of the defect and uploading it through the app … Housing staff in Australia are being issued with iPads and a custom-made app called IVY....

While whether or not closing apps on the iOS actually has any performance, there are some reasons why it might be useful. We’ve already seen customers tweet photos as their pre-ordered iPhone 12 arrives, as well as photos of people waiting in line at Apple Stores. Apple has now shared some official photos, not just in-store, but also of the shipping and distribution process used to get devices to stores and to customers … Apple shared photos of its Orchard Road store in Singapore, which opened in 2017. One customer had an expensive morning, showing off their iPhone 12, MagSafe charger, iPad Air, Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil....

A new supply-chain report backs suggestions of an iPhone 12 launch in October rather than the usual September timeframe. Previous reports said that Apple bans on staff traveling to China earlier in the year means there have been delays to two phases of tests needed before mass-production can begin … At the time, it was suggested that Apple might still be able to launch in September, with limited availability. Subsequent reports indicated that the iPhone 12 launch might have to be pushed back to October, and today’s Digitimes report supports that....

Apple started the presale of the iPhone 14 series this Friday. While many faced issues with the Apple Online Store and estimated delivery dates slipped into October, some customers already got the message that their iPhone 14 order is preparing to ship. If you were able to place your order as soon as it opened, you’ll probably get the following message: On Wednesday, Apple announced four new iPhone 14 models. While the only one not available on September 16 will be the iPhone 14 Plus, there’s a lot to be excited about with these new phones....
