Another day, another series of iPhone rumors. Yesterday’s roundup included the latest information about a September 18th next-generation iPhone launch date, faked benchmarks, and new system-on-a-chip schematics, and today our roundup covers a likely fake rose gold iPhone 6S image, reservations for the new phone from carriers, and Germany, and a pair of claims out of China about future iPhone models. Let’s start with the rose gold image: Based on claims from reliable analysts, and Apple’s history of expanding colors and features across its product portfolio, a rose gold or pink version of the iPhone 6S sounds highly likely....

Rumors that Apple will ditch the headphone jack with this fall’s iPhone update have been around for a while now, but Japanese magazine Mac Fan today has shared detailed design schematics of the purported iPhone 7 ‘Pro.’ According to the magazine, the device will feature the same overall size as the iPhone 6s Plus, but is expected to ditch the headphone jack and feature dual iSight cameras on the back (via Macotakara....

Meanwhile, Apple’s set to work with Korea Telecom and NTT DoCoMo to launch the device in Japan, South Korea, India, Indonesia and China; and Apple’s existing iPhone partners in the UK, France and Germany seem set to keep their exclusive status, even while the company makes deals with multiple carriers in other territories. June 9 launch Straight to the big deal, though, with Gizmodo this morning citing the usual shadowy “sources” to definitively claim the next generation 3G iPhone will be announced during the WWDC keynote – and will be available worldwide directly after launch, staggered across June/July (we suspect)....

Government action that badly disrupted iPhone production in India is no longer affecting imports of iPhone components, according to a Foxconn statement… Escalation of a long-running border dispute between India and China had left Foxconn waiting for iPhone parts. A subsequent report said that the Indian government was considering exceptions for imports by foreign companies like Apple, and a new Reuters report suggests that this solution has now been agreed....

I use this diary format to provide my take on iDevices for three reasons. First, because initial impressions can be misleading. Second, because tastes, of course, vary. And third, in recognition of the fact that you can’t really look at a single device in isolation – we also need to understand the role it plays in our own personal Apple ecosystem. If I were looking to have just two devices – a laptop and a phone – then there would be only one sensible choice for me: the iPhone 6s Plus....

New court documents show that Fortnite didn’t rely on Apple’s platform for much of its overall revenue. According to files seen by the Verge from Epic’s trial against Apple, the iOS system was one of the smallest platforms in terms of revenue for Epic Games. These documents show that iOS revenues in 2020 were projected to be just 5.8% of all earnings, compared to 24% for Xbox One and “almost 40%” for PlayStation 4....

iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max include a new Emergency SOS feature via satellite connectivity, so that users can get help even when out of cellular and Wi-Fi range. This feature launches in the United States and Canada first, starting in November. A Reuters report this weekend indicated that the satellite features are enabled by a Qualcomm X65 modem inside the phones. An Apple statement to Reuters also said that custom Apple-designed radio frequency components and software also make the satellite feature possible....

Luxury automotive company Bentley is the latest to take advantage of the filming capabilities of the iPhone 5s and iPad Air with a new short film entitled “Intelligent Details”. The four-minute film largely aligns with Apple’s values of design, performance, and technology coming together as it profiles the Bentley Mulsanne (MSRP from $298,000). As the film concludes, it is revealed that it was captured by the camera on Apple’s iPhone 5s and arranged in iMovie on an iPad Air… The latter portion of the film even shows the process and equipment used by the filmmakers with Apple’s technology and additional equipment....

A WSJ piece on Foxconn ramping up production of the iPhone 5s to meet demand provided an interesting glimpse at some of the numbers involved. Foxconn operates 100 production lines, which are now operating at maximum capacity 24/7 to turn out 500,000 iPhones 5s handsets per day according to the report. Each iPhone represents the combined work of around 600 people. The unnamed Foxconn source said that this amounted to 100 people more than for the iPhone 5c due to the increased complexity of the high-end phone … While the relationship between Apple and Foxconn is a crucially important one to both companies, each side is reportedly looking to reduce its reliance on the other – Apple looking to diversify its supply chain, and Foxconn keen to retain capacity for other clients....

As the clock begins to turn to Friday, September 16th around the world, people are slowly getting their hands on Apple’s new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. As is usually the case with product releases, customers in Australia and New Zealand are first to receive their preordered Apple products and images have slowly been trickling in… A variety of customers have taken to Instagram and Twitter to share their excitement of their new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus arriving....
