While demand for the next generation iPhone is looking to be high, the hectic supply chain continues to disrupt the market. According to DigiTimes, Apple is cutting iPhone 14 orders by 10%, despite expecting strong demand for its lineup. The issue began when Apple’s supplier TSMC had three major customers adjust their orders, worsening the semiconductor situation. With the ongoing shortages, these customers couldn’t continue with business as usual. However, the outlook should improve over time as TSMC remains optimistic for the rest of this year....

Update: Business Insider reports that it’s the same at London’s flagship Apple Store in Regent Street, with just a handful of people there at 7am and not many more when it opened. As we highlighted earlier this evening, the iPhone 8 is already available for purchase in several countries around the world as time zones shift into September 22nd. It’s no secret that much of the typical iPhone launch day excitement this year is tapered by the looming iPhone X, however, and Reuters says the effect was crystal clear in Australia…...

High end Russian accessory maker, Caviar, has unveiled its latest custom iPhone X. Named iPhone X ‘Tesla’, it features an integrated solar panel and secondary battery along with some design embellishments. Spotted by AppleInsider, the new custom iPhone X from Caviar doesn’t have any official connection with Tesla, but was rather inspired by the company. The custom case/build with gold detailing and solar panel looks as though the modification is fixed in place....

One of the coolest features Apple will introduce with iOS 16 is the Live Activities function on the new Lock Screen. Although the company has already claimed that it won’t be available with version 16.0, what’s changed with beta 4 is that the Live Activities API is now available to developers, which means they can try it out and see how they can implement the function on their apps. With the framework now available, Apple has also published the documentation on how to display live data on the Lock Screen with live Activities on iOS 16....

As indicated by the chart above, just released iOS 5 is showing many speed improvements over iOS 4. iOS 5 was faster in almost every category — as indicated by green — except for the first generation iPad. In an effort to boost usage of its new streaming music service that launched alongside iOS 7 last fall, Apple is considering changes to iTunes Radio. The Cupertino company is now testing iTunes Radio as a standalone application with iOS 8, according to sources briefed on the plans. iTunes Radio first arrived as a feature within the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch operating system’s Music application. As a tab in the already-existing Music app, iTunes Radio has not received a promoted presence on iOS, and this likely has deterred growth for the service in terms of advertising revenue and usage…...

Apple earlier today reported its Q3 2015 earnings, and while the company’s stock has taken an after-hours dive, the numbers were generally strong. Apple reported that it had sold 47 million iPhone units and 10.9 million iPad units in the quarter, combining for a total of 57.9 million iOS devices, not including the iPod touch. As noted by Benedict Evans of a16z, Apple’s sales last quarter mean that iOS sales are now matching those of Windows PCs....

Demand for the new iPad, at the very least the LTE models in the United States, appears to be as strong as expected. Apple’s preorder page now lists both the white 16GB and 64GB AT&T LTE models with a delivery date of March 19. The rest of the models are currently still listed as shipping on March 16, as announced by Apple during yesterday’s unveiling. Apple’s Canadian online store lists all models with a delivery date of March 16-20, except the 64GB Wi-Fi only model listed as “Available by: March 19”....

If he’s to be believed, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will both be more expensive than their predecessors. The Irish tax ruling in July went in Apple’s favor, with the court finding that the European Union had failed to prove that the tax deal Ireland offered to Apple was illegal, and therefore the company did not owe €13B ($15B) in back taxes. Apple’s radically new set of default icons is probably the biggest point of contention surrounding iOS 7. Each new icon has been redrawn and features a new color palette that fits to a new design grid. While these new standards are not mandatory, most developers will likely want to rethink the way their icons are presented in a way that makes them coherent to the new user-interface of the operating system....
