Analysts are expecting the price people will pay for an iPhone to rise significantly heading into next year. Apple analyst Katy Huberty from Morgan Stanley released a report (via Business Insider) predicting iPhone ASP to rise to $753 in 2018, up from $695 in the holiday quarter just gone. Much of this increase is attributed to demand for the upcoming flagship iPhone model with an all-new design, OLED display and (almost) bezel-less front face....

Both Virgin and Boost Mobile have announced that they will make the iPhone X available for ordering starting November 3 and 10, respectively. In a press release, Virgin Mobile USA shared that customers can preorder Apple’s premium iPhone from the carrier’s website starting November 3rd. The Sprint owned carrier earlier this year made the move to go “iPhone only” with a reboot of its plans, along with a special offer of a year of service for $1....

One of the benefits of an iPhone is that you get iOS updates for five or more years. But when it comes to the iOS 15 update, Apple is for the first time offering iPhone owners a choice of two options. A report in the medical journal Pediatrics claims that the allergic reaction of an 11-year-old boy may have been due to the nickel in his iPad, with the Washington Post saying that the case appears to be just one example of many. Reportedly the boy’s condition improved when he switched to using a Smart Case, an example of which is shown above, seemingly confirming the cause. The boy, treated at a San Diego hospital, had a history of skin issues, but a different rash developed all over his body and wouldn’t respond to typical treatment....

We think we know the names of the new iPhones, thanks to the iOS firmware. Apple’s three new phones are called iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X (via Steven Troughton Smith). . Japanese blog Macotakara claims its sources indicate iPad Mini production has begun in the far Western country of Brazil by China-based Foxconn. This comes coincidentally within hours of the rumored iPad mini invite/announcement/launch date news. One interesting note: The sometimes-rumored backside mic port (note above, right) does not appear on these iPad minis, according to the report. Perhaps the absence indicates a cheaper version and a more expensive version with more bells and whistles....

There are some compelling reasons to delete apps. You might want to free up storage space, stop a resource hog from eating up memory and battery life, or remove an app that’s taking up too much of your time. You can tackle a spring-cleaning of your phone at any time of the year, but it’s a good idea to regularly take stock of what apps you have installed and delete any that might be problematic....

The Yves Behar-designed device has already started shipping to a few buyers, and pre-order pricing has ended, bringing the price up to $249.99. The August is one of many similar replacements for traditional keyed deadbolts that uses Bluetooth and a smartphone app to manage who can and can’t unlock your doors....

A British iPhone owners’ lawsuit against Google filed in 2017 and which the High Court blocked in 2018 has today been reinstated. The ‘representative action’ (the UK equivalent of a class action lawsuit) was seeking compensation for every Brit who used an iPhone between June 2011 and February 2012, with the campaign group behind it seeking £500 ($613) per user… Background We explained back in 2017 what the case is about....

Several reports in the past have linked the increasing prices of smartphones to lengthening iPhone upgrade cycles. A new report today from Strategy Analytics makes similar claims, saying that the average time to upgrade a smartphone has lengthened to 33 months. The Strategy Analytics report also says that the average iPhone has been active for 18 months, compared to the average Samsung phone at 16.5 months. Elsewhere, the report highlights that just 7 percent of those surveyed indicated that they plan to spend over $1,000 when they upgrade to their next iPhone or other smartphone....

On Monday, Apple announced that iOS 15 and watchOS 8 will bring support for storing ID cards in the Wallet application. While the feature sounds fantastic in practice, the details are sparse and there’s still a lot we don’t know about when and how this will work. Apple Pay VP Jennifer Bailey announced the feature during Apple’s WWDC 2021 keynote. Bailey explained during the keynote that this is the final thing that Apple needs to bring to the Wallet app to let you be “fully free of your physical wallet....

Apple continues to show its chip prowess not only in the latest Apple Silicon-powered Macs, but also in the iPhone. New benchmarks conducted by PCMag indicate that Samsung’s latest Galaxy S22 still can’t keep up with the A15 Bionic chip in the iPhone 13 Pro. While PCMag notes that the Galaxy S22 is the “most powerful Android phone” it’s tested so far, its benchmark results still fall behind the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max....
